Patterns

When starting this project, we were challenged to be inspired by an artist of a different medium. I was assigned Yayoi Kusama, the queen of dots, and infinity rooms. I took her artwork and was inspired to create a pattern of my own. This included many variations of dots and planning at different heights. Moving from 2D to 3D, our class was selected into groups. I was chosen as a leader to install my 12"x12" pattern into a large wall covering.

The final installation was located on the 8th Floor of the Columbia College Design Building. Out of 32 students, my pattern was voted in the top four. This meant I was going to be assigned eight other students to help me bring my pattern to life. We had one week to plan, cut, and glue to the final 8’ x 6’ installation.

When finalizing the project, we are assigned to photograph our 12” x 12” properly to use Adobe Photoshop and place our pattern into space. I was inspired by glass, especially etched glass, and decided to use my pattern to displace a large installation of glass in a commercial space. One of my strengths is using my skills in Adobe Photoshop to display my vision of how I would view my pattern.

Finally, to wrap up the project, our Digital Media III class had us bring our pattern into Rhino, create 3D images, and them place them into spaces we felt would suit our pattern. I chose a conference room because I feel like this space is design can be over looked. Spicing up a space that is meant for collaboration was the goal.
