Chicago
Bike-A-Bee Retail Space
03 / 24 / 2021
Welcome to Bike-A-Bee, an urban beekeeping project with about 40 hives on the south side of Chicago. They believe having bees where people can see them enriches the community’s understanding of bees and the natural systems they sustain.

We had three key components to this space. Create a space that supports the bee & the business. Provide an additional service, we chose a cooking class to help users understand the extent of the bee populations importance in sustaining the foods we regularly consume. Help users "be the bee" and experience a dance-like communication with the space and give back to the planet by not taking from it.

Bees communicate through a form of dance, so this contributes to our narrative of a bee like experience for the user. Customers have to weave through the hexagonal shelves to shop for their Bike-A-Bee honey.

In addition to the retail space, we added in a kitchen to encourage community classes where people could learn just how many of our food groups would be affects if bees disappeared.

The Bike-A-Bee retail space is the perfect space for the company to brand themselves in an up and coming South Loop. The space will stand out on the street spreading honey and awareness throughout the city of Chicago.
